The A361 North Devon Link road is closed after a serious crash near Moortown Cross in Devon. The road is expected to be closed for quite some time. The crash involved two heavy goods vehicles.

Both drivers have been taken to hospital. Emergency services are at the scene. Devon and Fire and Rescue were called to help extract the drivers from their vehicles.

A spokesman said: “Fire engines from Witheridge, South Molton and Tiverton, along with the heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor in Exeter were sent to the A361 at Moortown Cross to reports of a serious incident. “On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a road traffic collision involving 2 HGVs, with both drivers trapped in their cabs. “Crews got to work with RTC cutting equipment to extricate the first male casualty, who suffered with leg, arm and head injuries.

“The second male casualty was also extricated using cutting gear and had injuries involving the legs, arm and head. “Both casualties were conveyed to hospital by ambulance. “The main A361 will remain closed for several hours.

“Duty of care was left with the police.” Devon and Cornwall Police put out the following statement on their Twitter account. “Emergency Services currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A361 at Moortown Cross.

Please avoid area.” A spokesman for South Western Ambulance said: “We received the call at 12.31pm to reports of a two vehicle RTC. “There were two male casualties.

One with a head and arm injury and one with a head and chest injury “We attended with two ambulances, one rapid response car and two air ambulances were also at the scene “One casualty flown to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and one was flown to Derriford.”
