Forklift accident claims life of 54-year-old man

Published: 10:30 PM, May 10, 2017 Updated: 11:31 PM, May 10, 2017 SINGAPORE — A forklift accident claimed the life of a 54-year-old lorry driver on Tuesday (May 9), after two stacks of steel bars fell off and crushed him.

The victim, a lorry driver at Euro Pac Logistics, was opening the sideboards of his lorry to prepare for the loading of steel bars on his lorry bed, when two stacks of steel bars fell off the forklift, crushing him underneath. The incident took place at the fourth storey of CWT Logistics Hub 3, located at Tanjong Penjuru. A Manpower Ministry (MOM) spokesperson said that forklift truck usage has been been stopped at the workplace.

The police said it was alerted to a case of industrial accident at around 10.30am on Tuesday. The victim, which TODAY understands is Malaysian, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Police and MOM investigations are ongoing.

The MOM added that a thorough inspection of the workplace will be conducted.
