Lorry Carrying Fuel Explodes, One Casualty Reported

BINTULU: A fuel-laden tanker was caught in a fire and destroyed at least five nearby vehicles earlier this morning in Sarawak.

The Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department Senior Officer, Hata Gobel, told Berita Harian that the incident that occurred at 11.54am happened in front of a medical centre in Jalan Kidurong. “Firefighting efforts are still ongoing while the cause of the incident is unknown,” he said. Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue Department sssistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii confirmed with Sarawak Voice that his department received the distress called at around 11.53am.

“Two Scania engines with 10 members were then rushed to the location around 11.54am and arrived at the site five minutes later.

“The flames raged out as far as 200 kilometres,” he shared, adding that the department will identify the vehicles affected by the explosion.

Currently, one casualty has been identified but investigation into the victim is put on hold as blackout operation is still underway.

Francis Ngu Hown Hua shared on Facebook videos and photos of the spine-chilling ordeal, with netizens praying for the safety and well-being of everyone.

“I hope the mortality statistics is zero,” Farid Sango Hii wrote. “May the safety of firefighters and the citizens be assured in this recent fire outbreak,” Syasya Qamarina hoped. “Subhanallah, may everyone’s safety is guaranted.
