M25 reopens after three vehicle crash near Heathrow

A crash involving three vehicles caused part of the M25 in Surrey to close anti-clockwise this morning. The incident, which happened just after 3am, involved an HGV and happened within an area where roadworks were taking place. Emergency services and Highways England are working to clear the road and will try to fully reopen the carriageway as soon as possible.

Surrey Police released a statement saying: ‘This incident is likely to cause substantial delays and disruption well into the morning, both on the motorway and the local roads, and we ask the public to check before you travel and consider alternative routes.’ The closure was between Junction 13 for Staines and Junction 12 for the M3.

People are being urged to be patient while Police carry out investigations. All five lanes were closed for several hours this morning. The affected area is near Heathrow airport.

People travelling to Heathrow and Gatwick are being encouraged to leave plenty of extra time for their journeys.

One lane has now opened but four others remain closed and traffic is still moving slowly through the area.

As ever, people are urged to check their route before they travel.
