Lorry driver's nightmare as vehicle gets stuck on concrete ball in Newquay

This was the scene in Newquay[1] town centre today after a lorry somehow drove onto a round concrete parking barrier. The lorry, which belongs to food supplier Hunt’s, was stuck for some time after the base of the vehicle was wedged on the barrier. The incident happened at around 12pm on East Street.

Witness Rob James said the recovery process took nearly two hours.

“It happened at about 12pm on East Street outside Bargain Booze,” he said. “The delivery truck went on top of one of the balls and there was lots of oil and fuel on the road.

“The recovery vehicle took about half an hour to turn up, and then it took about an hour to clean everything up and get the lorry out.”

The road remained open, meaning some cars drove through the liquids on the road.

Oil was spotted as far away as Aldi, leading to slippery conditions on the roads.
