Passenger in horrific M62 crash near Goole dies 10 days after driver

A second man has died as a result of last week’s M62 crash near the Ouse Bridge . The 37-year-old was a passenger in a car when a HGV ploughed through the central reservation[1] and into the path of the vehicle he was travelling in. His family have asked that he is not named and that their privacy is respected at this time.

Nigel Eley, 41, from Manchester was driving the car at the time and died at the scene, but the second man had to be taken to hospital[2] with serious injuries.

The busy road had to be closed for almost 24 hours as police[3] investigated the incident, causing drivers to be stranded close to the Howden junction. The HGV driver, a 22-year-old man was also taken to hospital at the time in a serious condition but has since been released. Four fire engines, an ambulance and the police all rushed to the scene on Tuesday, April 3, with an air ambulance[4] landing on the empty westbound carriageway shortly afterwards.
