Weekend best bets: Live and Local Fest, Beer and BBQ

Festivals

Live and Local Hillsborough Street[1] Artsplosure, the presenter of its namesake spring festival since 1980 and First Night Raleigh since 1991, is partnering with Live it Up! Hillsborough Street to bring its signature programming to Raleigh’s most iconic and beautiful street this weekend.

This family-friendly festival will include live music, food trucks, arts and crafts and more on Saturday. BrickUniverse[2] This is the ultimate LEGO fan event. This fun, family-friendly expo will have tons of amazing LEGO creations to gawk at, building zones to unleash your creative energy, guest speakers and more in the LEGO theater.

The festival is Saturday and Sunday at the Raleigh Convention Center. • ‘Live and Local’ festival celebrates spring in downtown Raleigh[3] Mural Durham[4] See giant satellite dishes painted live during this event on Saturday at the Duke Arts Annex, a hidden gem maker space in Durham’s Burch Avenue.

There will also be live music.

Raleigh Tattoo Festival

All-American Tattoo Convention[5] Some of the best tattoo artists in the country will be at the Crown Expo Center in Fayetteville this weekend. The three-day event will include tattoo contests, roller derby and more fun. UNC Science Festival[6] This UNC free, family-friendly event includes more than 100 fascinating exhibits with hands-on experiments, riveting demonstrations, laboratory tours, stage entertainment and much more on Saturday in Chapel Hill.

Food and beer

BBQ and Beer Fest[7] Head to Knightdale Station Park on Sunday for this food truck rodeo and live music event.

NC BBQ Revival

Pints for Paws[8] This craft beverage event is Saturday at Northgate Plaza in Durham.

Sample a selection of local beverages from Durham-based craft brewers and have a great time while benefiting Animal Protection Society of Durham. There will also be live music and local food trucks. Tickets are on sale.

Durham Bulls Bark in the Park Grapes, Grains and Giving[9] The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual fundraising event for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. The evening includes local craft beers and wines paired with hors-d’oeuvres and desserts, music and an auction.

The event is Friday at Leslie-Alford-Mims House. Wine Feed Grand Opening[10] Help celebrate the opening of the Durham location this weekend with wine tastings, food trucks, live music, movies and wine classes. Watts and Ward Anniversary[11] This underground downtown Raleigh speakeasy will celebrate its one year anniversary on Friday night with a night of live music.

Taste 2016

Crank for a Cause[12] Crank Arm Brewing hosts this stationary bike challenge to support Oaks and Spokes on Saturday.

There will be barbecue plates for sale, raffles and prizes.

Shopping

Southern Women’s Show[13] Shop, sample and share the fun at the N.C. State Fairgrounds this weekend during this annual show. Guests this year include Savannah Chrisley from Chrisley Knows Best and designer Vern Yip from HGTV.

The show runs Thursday through Sunday.

Southern Women's Show

Patchwork Market[14] This monthly market includes local makers and vintage vendors at The Durham Armory on Saturday.

Live music and comedy

Rhiannon Giddens[15] See this singer-songwriter and co-founder of the GRAMMY award-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Saturday night. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony[16] The hip-hop group performs at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Friday night.

VAE Comedy Night

VAE Comedy Night[17] The Visual Art Exchange will host five hilarious female comedians in conjunction with the current exhibition, Feminine Spectrum, curated by Stacey Kirby. The show is Saturday night.

Wet Hot American Summer the Musical[18] Watch a local cast of ne’er-do-wells recreate the cult classic movie as a stage musical at Kings Friday and Saturday nights.

The live band (Erics Attic) will bring the soundtrack to life!
