McPhee Bros of Blantyre acquired by private equity firm

Private equity firm Elaghmore Partners[1] has acquired a Lanarkshire-based concrete mixing business in a multi-million pound deal to expand its existing sites and grow its order book. Founded in 1971, McPhee Bros of Blantyre[2] designs and manufactures truck-mounted concrete mixer units that it supplies to construction and quarrying clients throughout the UK. It will become part of Elaghmore’s Total Vehicle Solutions (TVS) Group, which includes other acquisitions by Elaghmore, which is based out of Leamington Spa.

As part of TVS Group, the companies will cross-sell products and share facilities across the UK to broaden their reach.

McPhee Bros joins SB Components and Priden Engineering as part of the enlarged operation. As well as designing and manufacturing its McPhee Mixers, the Scottish firm also services and repairs them from its specialist site in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. It says it is the only UK concrete mixer manufacturer in the UK with more than one location.

McPhee employs as many as 90 people, and is the fourth acquisition made by Elaghmore’s Fund 1, which closed at the end of 2016 raising GBP60m. Andy Ducker, founding partner at Elaghmore, said his firm is excited about working with the management team at McPhee. “McPhee Mixers is a strong, profitable company with a growing order book, a track record of innovation and long-term relationships with some of the biggest names in the UK construction industry,” Ducker said. “It is a valuable addition to our Total Vehicle Solutions Group and expands its capability to offer even more products to its industrial client base from a growing number of sites across the UK.”

Founded by William McPhee, the family-owned business will receive financial backing to further new product development and expand its geographic reach. Sales and marketing capabilities will also be enhanced.

It is an exciting day for our skilled and dedicated workforce, as well as our customers, as we look to build on our success so far as part of the TVS Group.”
