Storm Hector LIVE: Hexham to Newcastle trains disrupted; Met Office say strongest winds still to come

Gale-force winds, unusual for June, are set to batter parts of northern England and Scotland on Thursday.

Met Office forecasters warn that gusts will widely hit 60mph, potentially 70mph in exposed parts, which could cause disruption to travel and power cuts.

The warning for Storm Hector is in place between 3am and 3pm but wind speeds are expected to peak in Newcastle at 1-3pm .

It is the first time the Met Office has named a summer storm.

Highways England warn: “Curtains on empty high-sided vehicles can act as sails when closed, and when high winds arise, we advise HGV drivers to open their curtain-sided vehicles if they are empty.”

We will have traffic and travel updates, pictures and video on incidents, on this live blog below.
