An Indianapolis driver was killed Wednesday afternoon after he rear-ended a truck on I-70, Indiana State Police said in a news release. Emergency crews were called to the crash at the 76.1 mile marker, near Holt Road, just after 1:30 p.m., police said.

They found Dustin McCoy, the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, trapped inside the truck and unconscious, according to the release. Investigators believe the truck had veered off the roadway and crashed into the back of a white 2018 Chevrolet Silverado parked along the left shoulder of I-70, state police said. The driver of the second truck was performing maintenance work on a road sign.

Firefighters extricated McCoy, 33, from his vehicle, troopers said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the white Chevrolet Silverado, Zachary Willis, was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition.

It’s unknown why McCoy’s car left the roadway, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
