Traffic chaos as M8 closed near Glasgow Airport following HGV crash

TRAFFIC is beginning to clear on the M8 near Glasgow Airport after it was closed due to a smash between a van and HGV earlier today. The crash occured on the the M8 westbound J29 St James to J30 Erskine Bridge and the road was closed from around 10.10am this morning.

Traffic was queuing back to the Junction 27 at Arkleston.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Around 10.20am police were called to reports of a road crash involving a lorry, a van and a car on the M8 westbound junction 29. “Emergency services are in attendance.” Glasgow Airport warned those travelling to catch a flight to allow extra time for their journeys.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call today at 10.30am to attend a road traffic collision on the M8 in Erskine. “We dispatched three ambulances and our trauma team to the scene.

Two patients were transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.”
