Truck driver not guilty in crash that killed two

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) — A tow truck driver accused in connection with two deaths has been acquitted on all counts.

James Helbert was facing Motor Vehicle Homicide charges for a crash on Highway 75 in January. A car driven by Khalil Jones, 19, had stalled on the Chandler Road exit lane. A Good Samaritan, Shamus Dean, 47, offered to help, pulling his pickup onto the shoulder.

Then the tow truck came along, crashing into the stopped car, killing Jones and Dean.

A Sarpy County jury returned the not guilty verdicts on Thursday.
