Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour: Seven things to expect when it visits Somerset

Holidays are coming to Somerset next week with the famous Coca-Cola Christmas truck set to drop by. The iconic red lorry, made famous by the ‘holidays are coming’ adverts[1], is known to many as the sign that the festive period is upon us. The truck will be pitching up at a supermarket[2] car park, hoping to spark some early Christmas cheer.

Here are seven things you can expect when it visits Taunton.

The famous red truck has been a staple of the festive period after its first appearance on TV screens in 1995. The advert features a convoy travelling through a snowy area, lighting up trees and decorations as it goes along.

The vehicle appearing in Taunton is a 6.5m-long 13 tonne vehicle illuminated by 8,772 fairy lights.

Given it’s the first sighting of the iconic truck in Somerset since 2016, it’s bound to attract plenty of attention.[6][7] The lorry attracted long queues when it pitched up in Yeovil[8] in 2015 and 2016 as well as Street. Thousands of people are expected to queue to have their picture taken in front of it.

So make sure you arrive early to beat the queues.

If you think that the promise of free drinks will cause piles of cans and bottles to be littered around the car park – don’t worry. A Coca-Cola spokesman said that each truck tour stop will also encourage consumers to recycle their bottles and cans, in line with the company’s World Without Waste goal. The global pledge is to collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one sold by the year 2030.
