Shocking footage of hunt saboteurs being ambushed on a country lane by thugs ‘wielding a hammer’ has emerged.

Members of the North Cambs Hunt Sabs were driving to a farm in Smeeton Westerby, Leicestershire, to make sure a fox hunt was being carried out legally, according to Cambridgeshire Live.

Dash cam footage shows the saboteurs’ vehicle driving along a country lane on November 24 at around 3pm before encountering a pick-up truck that has blocked the path ahead with two men standing in front of it.

Suddenly two men can be seen charging down the road toward their car. One of them, wearing a hi-vis yellow jacket, waves a hammer.

He can be seen launching the object at the vehicle as the driver tries to reverse away from the vicious attack.

And the men continue to chase after the saboteurs’ vehicle before they manage to drive off quickly.

During the attack, the window of the saboteurs’ vehicle was smashed by the head of the hammer.

The organisation posted about the unsettling incident on their Facebook page.

They wrote: ‘Driving home with a car window gaffer taped up was not how we imagined ending today – but it’s an unfortunate consequence of defending the country’s wildlife from thugs and criminals each week.

‘Sabs were driven at and hit with vehicles, chased in 4WDs off road, hit, kicked, harassed and ultimately the side window of our trusty North Cambs vehicle was smashed in with a hammer after a co-ordinated blocking ambush on a remote country road.

‘This attack with a weapon was the result of a co-ordinated ambush where pickup trucks blocked the way in front of and behind our car on a single lane country road.

‘The suspect shown was part of a group of at least three men who waited until the majority of sabs were well away from the vehicle, before chasing and attacking our outnumbered lady driver.’

James Taylor, a member of North Cambs Hunt Sabs, told MailOnline: ‘The men shown in the video were chasing our drivers car around country lanes. They appeared to be doing nothing else constructive.

‘We were in Leicestershire as we had information that fox hunters were hunting that day.

We are based in Peterborough and they were within easy driving distance.’

‘On Saturday afternoon (24 November) at around 3.30pm, a woman called police to report her car’s rear passenger window had been smashed in Theddingworth.

‘Officers have today released an image of a man who may have valuable information to assist with their enquiries.’
