A251 Faversham Road in Ashford still shut a day after lorry rolls into field

A main road outside Ashford remains closed this morning after a lorry rolled into a nearby field yesterday. The HGV toppled over on the A251 Faversham Road close to Eastwell Manor hotel in Boughton Aluph yesterday and landed on a grassy verge, after its French driver tried to avoid another truck heading the opposite way. Firefighters were called just after 1pm as there were fears the driver was trapped, but crews did not need to cut him free.

The driver was uninjured, and fire crews left the scene at 1.30pm.

The A251 is part of a diversion route for drivers avoiding the Operation Stack closure on the M20, linking Ashford with the M2.

But the road – which also forms part of the main route between Ashford and Faversham – remains shut in both directions this morning while recovery work is still ongoing.
