Five people have miraculously escaped serious injury after a spectacular collision on a motorway in New Zealand[1] on Saturday.

At about 11:16am the incident caused major delays to traffic by closing two northbound lanes of Auckland’s Southern Motorway.

Dashcam footage of the incident shows a car appearing to change lanes in front of a truck before the driver of the truck has any chance to slow down.

The truck hits the rear of the car at speed, causing it to veer across three lanes of traffic while the truck steers into the roadside barrier.

Tony Ha, who filmed the incident on a dashcam that he had installed that morning, said there were five people in the two vehicles.

The truck had the driver and a passenger, while the car had a driver, a front passenger, and a rear passenger, according to the NZ Herald[2].

Mr Ha said that he didn’t see the accident but heard a ‘loud bang’ and then pulled over, waited until it was safe and went to talk to the truck driver.

‘The motorway was still moving and there were a couple of people a little bit closer like the first responders,’ he told the NZ Herald.

‘If you have a look at the pictures of the Mazda, if the rear passenger was on the right, he would have been crushed.

He was very lucky, he looked like he came out of it unscathed.’

‘What are the chances to capture something and being able to help someone like the truck driver,’ he said.

Mr Ha said he gave the dashcam video to the truck driver and to police.

He also said that the five people in the crash remarkably only had minor injuries.
