Woman taken to hospital with serious injuries following crash between car and lorry

A woman was taken to hospital following a smash between a car and a lorry in Rochdale. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were scrambled to Milnrow Road in Shaw on Wednesday afternoon following the smash. A woman, believed to be in her 60s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after firefighters cut her free from her car.

Another woman, thought to be in her 30s, was treated by paramedics at the scene. Drivers reported heavy congestion on the A663 Milnrow Road on Jubilee bends in both directions.

A North West Ambulance spokesperson said: “Air ambulance were called to a crash between a car and a HGV and a woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance. “The injuries are thought to be serious.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to an incident shortly after 1.06pm on Wednesday. “Two fire engines along with a Technical Response Unit attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

“We used cutting equipment to remove one passenger from a vehicle, who was then taken to hospital. “Another casualty was treated at the scene. A woman – believed to be in her 60s – was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

“The other casualty was a woman in her 30s and was assessed by paramedics on scene.”
