Photos emerge of mangled lorry following collision with Angus railway bridge

Police were called after a lorry struck an Angus railway bridge this morning. Train services were forced to run slower through Arbroath following the incident at about 7.10am, which took place at the crossing on the Dundee Road near West Links. A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at Dundee Road, Arbroath today following a road traffic collision at 7.10am this morning between a lorry and a bridge.”

The 7.39am Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street service was among those affected by the incident.

Photos show a mangled Pollock HGV by the side of a road near the railway bridge following the collision. The crossing was not badly damaged. A ScotRail spokesman said: “Colleagues at Network Rail Scotland (who maintain the railway infrastructure) have inspected the bridge and no damage was found.

“The 0730am Edinburgh to Aberdeen service was delayed by approximately 10 minutes as a result.”
