Driver critically ill after pick-up truck crashes into ditch in Forest of Dean

A man was seriously injured in a collision in the Forest of Dean this morning. Shortly before 9.30am officers responded to a report of a Nissan Navara pick-up truck in a ditch off the B4234 New Road in Whitecroft, Lydney. The ambulance service and fire service attended the incident and the driver of the Nissan, a man in his 30s from the Chepstow area, was taken from the vehicle and driven by ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.

The accident happened not far from Norchard, the main base of the Dean Forest Railway.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire  Fire and Rescue service confirmed firefighters had rescued the injured man from his vehicle. Three crews, two from Lydney, one from Coleford were called to the scene just after 9.26am where they found the man trapped in his truck in a ditch.

They worked to free him before he was taken to hospital. The last crew left the scene just after midday.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the crashed pick-up truck following the collision but hasn’t spoken to police should call 101 and quote incident 111 of 15 June.

The road remains closed at this time while a serious collision investigation continues.
