Lorry leaves 'trail of destruction' in dramatic police chase ending in Leeds

Police have told of the dramatic chase of a LGV which came to an end in Leeds when officers chased the culprits on foot and tasered them. The vehicle was spotted in Derbyshire acting suspiciously while travelling northbound on the M1. To stop it, police deployed a stop stick to burst the lorry’s tyres near to junction 39.

But the LGV carried on. The driver left the M1 around Dunkar before rejoining on the WRONG carriageway, travelling north on the southbound side. Police cars followed it on the northbound side until arriving in the Middleton area of Leeds.

The LGV had lost both front tyres, and left a ‘trail of destruction of road signs and gouges in the tarmac’.

As told in the post, shared by South Yorkshire Police’s operational support team on Facebook: “The chaos eventually came to an end when the driver lost traction on a uphill stretch of Belle Isle Road. “Both occupants ran from the truck and in to gardens.

They tried their best to hide but with Traffic Departments from 3 Forces hell bent on bringing them to justice, it was only ever going to end one way … one of which involved a Taser. “Thankfully, no innocent members of society were injured and the driver has some interesting questions to answer today.”
