Police discover 'immigrants' in lorry at Cambridgeshire service station – Cambridge News

Nine people have been detained on suspicion of immigration offences after noises were heard coming from the back of a lorry at a service station in Peterborough.

Police and ambulance services attended to the incident at Eye Green Services, after the suspicious noises were heard coming from a refrigerated lorry.

On searching the vehicle nine people were found inside the trailer. All nine were detained over suspected immigration offences.

Eight people, including the driver of the lorry, have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences, with one juvenile being taken to the Immigration Centre.

An eyewitness at the scene said that Peterborough services was blocked on Fletton Parkway as the truck doors opened, with a large ermegency services presence.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said:“We were called at around 8.30am today (15 July) with reports of concern for people in the back of a lorry. 

“Police stopped the vehicle at Eye Green services in Peterborough. Eight people have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences, including the driver of the lorry, and have been taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre. 

“A juvenile has been taken to the Immigration Centre. 

“They will be handed over to immigration services.”
