Road sealed off after cyclist seriously injured in collision with pick-up truck

A cyclist was rushed to LGI suffering from serious injuries after a collision this morning. Dryclough Road in the Crosland Moor[1] area of Huddersfield was closed by West Yorkshire Police following an incident at 11.27am. A police spokesperson said the male cyclist had “serious injuries” following a collision with a black pick-up truck.

It is thought the victim is roughly 18-years-old. Police told ExaminerLive his injuries are “not thought to be life threatening” but an eye witness said it was a very nasty collision with “blood everywhere”. They said the cyclist had become trapped under a trailer being pulled by a Nissan Navara pick-up and had badly broken his leg.

Local residents rushed out to help and one gave first aid by tying a tourniquet around the victim’s leg to stem the bleeding.

The witness said: “He was great giving him first aid – if it wasn’t for him he would’ve been a lot worse.” Dryclough Road at its junction with Dryclough Avenue, close to Moor End Academy school, was sealed off for almost three hours while accident investigations took place. The road re-opened at about 2.20pm.

West Yorkshire Police has urged witnesses to come forward by ringing 101 referencing log number 684 or July 13, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
