Do you remember the Leicestershire firms which feature in these great vintage photos?

Our recent photo of Cross Street,  Oadby, which featured truck body building firm WH Goddard, prompted Colin Chesterman to send in these two pictures from his collection. Transport history enthusiast Colin, who lives in Groby, thought the names on the side of the truck might well bring back memories for our readers. He said: “I have always had an interest in trucks from any early age, having a connection with Douglas Weir Ltd, who were Leicester dealers for Seddon, Vauxhall and Bedford vehicles.

“From being at Sandhurst Street Infant School in 1940 to leaving ‘big school’ in New Street in 1950, I would go round to Goddard’s, at the junction of Cross Street and Beaumont Street, to see the lorries being built from chassis to the finished trucks.
