Driver, truck involved in pedestrian fatal located; search for 2nd driver continues

Toronto police say they have located one of the two drivers involved in Wednesday’s fatal hit-and-run of a female pedestrian in Scarborough. A 76-year-old woman was crossing Midland Avenue at Sheppard Avenue when she was struck by a heavy duty truck which was turning south onto Midland around 11:30 a.m. Police said after being struck the woman fell under the rear wheels of the vehicle, which likely caused her death.

The driver of the truck did not stop and continued south on Midland. Shortly after police said they located the truck and the driver, a 47-year-old man. No word yet on if any charges will be laid.

Police say they are still searching for the driver of a second vehicle which also struck the woman as she lay on the roadway. According to witnesses the driver of the vehicle stopped, got out of the car, looked around and then got back into the car and drove away. The car has been described as a white sedan and the driver is believed to be a young, tall, brown, male driver.

A surveillance photo of the car in question has been released by police.

Police are still asking for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the accident and who may have dash cam or other video footage to contact them.
