Live updates: M1 in Leicestershire shut for seven hours after lorry fire

Traffic will be diverted off the M1 in Leicestershire well into the rush hour following a fire on the northbound carriageway. The M1 has been shut north of Junction 23 for Loughborough and Shepshed since around 1.15am on Monday, August 12. A lorry carrying barrels of paint has caught alight, and while the fire has been extinguished, the paint it was carrying needs to be removed before specialist recovery can take place.

It is likely the road will remain closed into morning rush hour, with Leicestershire Police saying at 4.30am the work would take at least two more hours.

A diversion, following the solid diamond symbol, has been set up along the the A512 and A42 through Shepshed, Thringstone and Breedon on the Hill.
