M25 crashes: Rush hour chaos for thousands as collisions cause severe tailbacks

A number of crashes on the M25 are bringing rush hour chaos for thousands commuting home this evening. An overturned car on the M25 at Clacket Lane Services is causing long delays. The collision follows two crashes within an hour on the anti-clockwise carriageway earlier today.

Pictures from the scene show the vehicle on its side, with traffic building around the area. A tweet from Highways England says: “M25 Road Traffic Collision J5 (Sevenoaks) towards J6 (Godstone) Surrey Road Cops and traffic officers on scene. please approach the scene with caution.” The first of the incidents on Tuesday involved a large goods vehicle and car at around 8.30am, before a lorry and car collided at around 9.20am, reports Surrey Live[1] .

Ambulance crews attended the scene of both incidents, with one driver having to be taken to East Surrey Hospital with a back injury.

Highways England said: “The M25 currently has delays of at least 60 minutes clockwise between J4 (near Shoreham) and J6 (near Godstone). The delays are due to a road traffic collision involving a car which has left the carriageway and overturned. It is on its side.

“A short distance ahead there is a HGV stranded in the middle of the carriageway, causing an obstruction. The carriageway is currently blocked. Surrey Police and Highways England Traffic Officers are currently in attendance.

“For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.
