Man injured in A38 crash between car and pick-up truck

A male driver has been injured in a crash which has closed part of the A38. Emergency services were called to the dual carriageway at Rattery just before 7am today after the truck crashed into a car and the central reservation. The outside lane is closed in both directions, which is causing slow traffic.

There has also been a crash on the A385 at Tigley, which is where the diversion route is. A police spokesperson said: “A spokesperson said: “Police, fire and ambulance were called at 6.45am today [30 August] following a two-vehicle collision on the A38 at Rattery.

“The collision between a car and a pick-up truck happened on the Exeter-bound carriageway. “The pick-up crossed the central reservation into the Plymouth-bound carriageway following the collision.

The male driver has sustained injuries but they are not believed serious at this time. “The outside lane is closed on both carriageways.” The driver was cut free from firefighters.

The Fire service said: “A casualty was extricated by crews attending from Buckfastleigh, Ivybridge, Ashburton, together with a rescue tender from Middlemoor, after a report from the Police came in for a three vehicle RTC, where the vehicles had gone through the central crash barriers into the opposite carriageway.

“On arrival of the first crew they confirmed that whilst this was the case, the RTC involved two vehicles, not three, with one of the cars in the Eastbound carriageway and the other coming to rest in the Westbound carriageway.

Crews worked alongside Ambulance paramedics to release the casualty, before making both the vehicles safe.”
