Police name biker who died after tragic lorry crash which closed Stoke-on-Trent road for 14 hours

Police have named a biker who died following a crash with a lorry on a busy Stoke-on-Trent road. Richard Thorley was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after his motorbike collided with an HGV on Campbell Road, Stoke, at just before 4pm yesterday (August 13). But nothing could be done to save the 57-year-old, of Tean, and he died from his injuries.

Police closed the road for 14 hours while a major investigation into the circumstances of the crash got underway. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “The man who died after his motorbike was in collision with a HGVhas been formally identified. “Richard Thorley was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died a short time later as a result of the injuries he had received.

“Mr Thorley’s family members have requested that their privacy be respected while they deal with their loss.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: “Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended. “We treated a man in his 50s and took him to Royal Stoke University Hospital by land ambulance.”
