Samantha Ford who drowned 'miracle' IVF twins in bath has been jailed

A mother who killed her own twin children by drowning them in the bath is starting a 10 year jail term today. Samantha Ford, 38, killed her 23-month-old toddlers Jake and Chloe in the bath and then crashed her car into the back of a lorry at 100mph, later telling police: “I’ve killed my babies. Please let me die”.

The Old Bailey heard she drowned her toddler twins out of “anger” at her estranged husband and former Hull man Steven Ford who had split up just two months before the killings. Ford admitted manslaughter by diminished responsibility but denied murdering the twins at her home, near Margate, Kent, on December 27 last year. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison and will complete her sentence in jail after psychiatric treatment, the Old Bailey heard on Friday.

The Mirror reports how Judge Andrew Edis QC told Ford said: “You had killed the children within half an hour of their return to you by their grandparents.

“You killed them, dressed them, dried them and placed them back in their beds, their bodies facing away from each other towards the wall. You wrote the note and quickly left.

“The loss of these two young lives is a tragedy which will haunt their father and other members of two families for the rest of their lives. I accept it will also haunt you because you loved the children.

“You decided not to kill yourself and not to jump off the cliff, although that had been your plan.

On your journey back from the cliff in your car you decided to drive in to the rear of a truck in a suicide attempt. “This was very controlled behaviour and not impulsive or frenzied. You had been considering doing this for some time as your Google searches demonstrated.

I accept you are a serious risk of suicide still.” Steven said that he turned to boxing to cope with the loss of his two children after spending a “perfect” day together before he handed them over to Samantha on Boxing Day. That was the last time he saw them alive. Read his heartbreaking words here.

Speaking to the Sunday Times last month, Steven, 36, said: “People say to me all the time, you’ll get through this – you’ll move on.

“And, I think yes, I will get through this , but I’ll never move on. That just seems too flippant. How I felt about my children when they were alive, how much I loved them, thought about them, cared about them – it’s no different now they’re gone.

I still love them so much. “There’s not a moment that goes by when they’re not in my thoughts.” He dropped the children off at his Samantha’s house at 12.30pm on Boxing Day last year – and that was the last time he saw them alive.

The pair had moved from Qatar back to their native UK to be closer to their family and lived in the Margate area in Kent. The twins had been miracle IVF babies and born in the Arab state.

However, the move led to the breakdown of their 10 year marriage and they had separated in October prior to Christmas 2018.
