Serious multi-vehicle crash closes A30

Published by Emma Carton at 9:40am 28th August 2019. (Updated at 9:46am 28th August 2019) Six vehicles are caught in the collision at Cheriton Bishop in Devon, including a lorry and a caravan. The HGV has overturned and several people have been injured, including two who are believed to be seriously hurt.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were scrambled just after 7.30pm on Wednesday morning. The road is likely to remain closed for some time and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

“Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious multi-vehicle collision on the A30 at Cheriton Bishop.

“Police, fire and ambulance were called at 7.40am today [28 August] following a collision involving six vehicles. “Among the vehicles is an HGV which has overturned and is on its side, plus a caravan. “A number of people have been injured and two people are believed seriously hurt.

“The air ambulance is currently on scene. “Both carriageways are closed and are likely to remain shut for some time. Diversions are in place westbound at Fingle Glen/Pathfinder and eastbound at Woodleigh junction.

“Police are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible for the time being. “Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police via or by phone on 101, quoting log number 0149 of 28/08/19”. Devon and Cornwall Police

An overturned lorry, a caravan and four other vehicles are involved between Woodleigh Junction (Cheriton Bishop) and Fingle Glen(Pathfinder Village). The road is expected to remain shut for several hours after a lorry went through the central barrier and overturned near Tedburn St Mary/Pathfinder Village at around 07:35, affecting traffic between Okehampton and Exeter. “The air ambulance is attending.

“Diversion: Via the old A30 through Tedburn St Mary, unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles and coaches.

“Earlier, the closure point was moved east to Alphington junction in Exeter, but as of 08:30 this has been reduced back again to the Fingle Glen/ Pathfinder Village”.
