Shocking A2 crash pictures show extent of Gravesend pile-up involving Arriva bus, lorry and van

These pictures show the extent of the crash which has brought the A2 to a standstill this morning (August 15). An Arriva bus, lorry and van were involved in a pile-up on the Londonbound carriageway in Gravesend shortly after 9am. Images show that the lorry had gone into the back of the van and the bus then ploughed into the lorry.

Traffic was tailing back for around seven miles to junction 1 of the M2 at Cobham at its worst. Drivers were temporarily held for around 50 minutes for safety reasons, which has caused severe congestion approaching the incident.

All lanes have now reopened and residual delays should begin to ease. According to Google maps, at one point, it was taking more than one hour 30 minutes to travel around seven miles.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision, which happened near the junction for the A2260 Southfleet Road. A police spokesman said earlier: “Kent Police was called at 9.12am on Thursday 15 August 2019 to a three vehicle collision on the A2 Londonbound, near Ebbsfleet.

“The incident is reported to have involved two lorries and a bus and officers are in attendance alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

“There are no reports of any serious injuries however the road is obstructed and motorists are advised to expect delays.”
