UPDATE – A64 reopens after lorry crash at Tadcaster

Police are appealing for dash-cam footage and witnesses after a lorry was involved in a collision on the A64 in the early hours of Friday 30 August 2019.

It happened at around 4.20pm between Tadcaster and Bramham when the lorry left the eastbound carriageway, crossed the central reservation and came to rest on the westbound carriageway. There were no other vehicles involved and the driver was uninjured. Anyone with any dash-cam footage, anyone who saw the lorry prior to the crash, or anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for TC 1532 Richard Harrison quoting reference 12190160451.

The road was closed to allow recovery of the vehicle and for repairs to be carried out to the central reservation barrier. Earlier we reported …..

Work is continuing to make the A64 ready for re-opening, after a lorry overturned forcing the closure of the west-bound carriageway.

It happened near Tadcaster, at around 4.30am. Highways England has posted this update:

The Lorry has been stood back up.

The crash happened at 4.30am Friday when a lorry carrying frozen vegetables travelling east went through the central reservation, and overturned on the Westbound carriageway.

The driver escaped unhurt.

Highways England said the carriageway was likely to remain closed until the afternoon.

Travel Advice:

Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the “Solid Square” diversion symbols. Exit the A64 using Tadcaster Bar junction off slip road and merge with the A659 at the end of the slip road.

After merging with the A659 proceed approximately 3 miles to the junction with the A64 Headley Bar junction.

At the junction continue on to the slip road and re-join the A64.
