Himachal Pradesh: Truck driver rescues 20 children from flood-hit river in Kangra

A tractor driver became a local hero on Thursday as he rescued 20 schoolchildren trapped inside a jeep on a flood-hit Indora-Kandrori link road in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The incident took place when the children were travelling in, got stuck in the strong currents of Chhonchh rivulet at Bain-Attarian in Indora. As panic gripped, the driver of the jeep allegedly left the children at their own and fled from the spot, leaving the kids stranded.

Meanwhile, a tractor driver passing by noticed the trapped children and shifted them into the trolley of his vehicle. The Chhonchh rivulet bridge was earlier washed away in 2016 following a major deluge. The then state government led by Congress leader Virbhadra Singh had sanctioned the construction of a new bridge with an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.

However, its construction is yet to be completed by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Police have registered a case against jeep driver Arvind Kumar, who is yet to be arrested.
