Ladyboys of Bangkok caught up in M62 crash apologise for cancelling show

The Ladyboys of Bangkok have apologised to ticket holders after cancelling their performance in Bridlington . The UK’s largest touring cabaret show were due to perform at Bridlington Spa on Thursday night, but a fatal crash on the M62 meant they were unable to reach the venue in time. The motorway was closed eastbound for several hours at junctions 22 and 23, near the M1 interchange, after a woman from Goole was killed in a crash.

Binky Beaumont, of Exchange Events Ltd, said: “The whole team were deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident and our sincere sympathies are sent to the people involved. “The decision to cancel the show was not taken lightly and it was a tough decision to have to make.

“We just would not have been ready to start until 9.30pm, which is when we usually finish. “All patrons will get a refund and early this morning myself and the team at the Spa agreed a return date for 2020, and reduced price tickets for the show when exchanged or booked before the end of December.

“We look forward to bringing the new show back to Bridlington next year on Monday, October 5, 2020.”

A statement said the tour coach spent five hours in stationary traffic on the M62 near Huddersfield, and was able to be turned around, but the articulated lorry carrying the props, set and more than 400 costumes was unable to move from 11am to 6pm. A spokesman for the company said: “The lorry was an hour further along the motorway, just about 200 yards from the devastating scene. “All the drivers and people stuck in this horrendous queue rallied around and shared supplies, lent people phone chargers and everyone was helping each other out.

“Very sadly, as we had no sign of moving with two and a half hours to go until the performance, and we were still 80 miles from the venue, the very disappointing decision was made to cancel the performance.”

On Friday morning, West Yorkshire Police issued a fresh appeal, saying: “Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward after yesterday’s (05/09) serious multiple collision on the M62 motorway. “A Volvo HGV, a Volkswagen Passat, an Iveco Vehicle Transport and a Volkswagen Toureg were all involved in the incident which occurred at around 10:40 am on the East-bound carriageway prior to Junction 23.

“The driver of the Passat, a 51-year-old woman from Goole, sadly suffered fatal injuries. “A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and been released under investigation.

“If you can assist officers in their investigations, please contact the non-emergency number 101 or via the live chat facility available through the Force’s website, quoting reference 509 of 05/09.”
