The M6 in Staffordshire is due to be closed for a ‘significant time’ after a lorry caught fire. Highways England has closed the northbound carriageway between Stafford North , junction 14, and Crewe , junction 16, with delays expected to last through rush hour. Traffic monitoring company INRIX says the road closed shortly after 3.50am and is expected to remain closed through the morning.

A Highways England spokesman said: “There is a total closure on the M6 Northbound between junction 14, Stafford North, and junction 16, Crewe. “This is due to a HGV fire. “Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene.”
