Pictures show mess left behind at Yeovil Town Football Club by travellers

Pictures show how a group of travellers left a large amount of litter behind at Yeovil Town Football Club after camping out at the stadium for five nights. Several caravans, cars, a pick-up truck and a pony set up camp next to a training pitch at Huish Park on Friday. The last of the group left the stadium this morning (Wednesday, September 11) but piles of litter were visible around the grassy area where they had been staying.

Among the items of rubbish clearly visible from the roadside were a McDonald’s bag, a gas cannister, rubbish sacks and a football. Somerset Live understands that Yeovil Town Football Club will be taking measures to prevent a similar situation from occurring in future. The presence of the travellers did not have any impact on any matches being played by the National League club, with the Glovers having played away at FC Halifax Town on Saturday.

Yeovil’s under-18s side, which often plays matches on the pitch next to where the travellers were camped, were also away in Cheltenham. With three days until the first team and under-18s are next due in action at Huish Park, it is not expected that there will be an impact on any forthcoming fixtures.
