Recap as 'giant' lorry stuck and blocking Freetown Way causing traffic gridlock

Traffic was backed up for miles as a ‘giant load’ blocked vehicles on a major Hull road. Drivers were stuck in their cars for more than 20 minutes as the large truck remained stuck across the road. One motorist caught up in the traffic told Hull Live: “Giant load blocking Freetown Way.

I’m next to the college. Traffic goes back over North Bridge to Witham and beyond. I’ve sat here 20 minutes so far.”

Humberside Police warned drivers to avoid the area and re-directed traffic at the scene, saying that the lorry needs to turn around due to being too high to fit under North Bridge.  At the time, a spokesman for the force said: “We attended the scene due to some highway disruption on Freetown Way due to an oversized vehicle being too high for North Bridge because of its height. “Police are on scene to help with backing the vehicle up and there is some traffic disruption while the oversized lorry re-routes.”
