Springfield Police: driver fired by trucking company steals truck on way out the door

SPRINGFIELD – A truck driver who was fired from his job on Tuesday did not leave quietly.

Police say he stole a semi-truck from his former employer and drove off with it.

The truck was recovered later, and the man who drove off with it is now facing charges related to its theft.

Terrance Suggs, 31, of Memphis, Tennessee, was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon and failure to stop for police.

According to police spokesman Ryan Walsh, officers were called to Hirschbach Motor Lines, 245 Cadwell Drive, just before 12:30 p.m.

Company officials told officers that Suggs, an employee who had just been let go, had hopped into a semi-truck and drove it off the lot.

The company filed a stolen vehicle report.

The truck was found a short time later at Page Boulevard and Berkshire Avenue, roughly 1 1/2 miles away, but Suggs was not with it, Walsh said.

He was spotted in a car near 1300 Berkshire Avenue, and when officers attempted to stop him, Suggs reportedly drove directly at the cruiser, forcing it to move out of the way to avoid being hit.

Suggs would eventually stop and surrender to police on Fiberloid Street.
