Truck driver who allegedly drove hours to meet teenage girl for sex is charged

A truck driver who had allegedly planned to meet a teenage girl for sex has been charged after he was caught on camera by undercover detectives.

It’s alleged Shaneel Sharan, 32, drove an hour to a home in western Sydney to meet a 14-year-old girl.

When police arrested Sharan he said: “I got a sugar daddy ad, someone responded to it and came to meet up.”

The girl was, in fact, a detective posing as a teenager.

It’s alleged Sharan had been communicating with the undercover police officer for two months before detectives made the arrest.

Money allegedly offered

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Haddow from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad said police will be alleging a sum of money had been offered.

That sum of money offered by the person of interest was allegedly £200.

“We will also be alleging that a hotel room has been booked by this person in which to take the child back to,” Haddow said.

Strike Force Trawler

The sting is the latest in ongoing investigations by Strike Force Trawler.

Officers have been working night and day to target anyone who is using the internet to lure children for sex.

Sharan became the 33rd person to be arrested by strike force detectives, who are catching almost one alleged online predator every week.

He is expected to face court in October.
