Uber hopes to lift share of market for freight

Uber is to spend £200 million a year and will hire thousands of people over the next three years in an attempt to gain a bigger share of America’s £700 billion road freight industry. The world’s largest taxi-hailing company plans to establish a new headquarters in Chicago and to employ 2,000 people as part of its plan to bolster Uber Freight. It has more than 400,000 lorry drivers in its network and 1,000-plus shippers as customers, including AB Inbev and Nestle, according to the company.
