Beverley Turner opens up about her split from Strictly star James Cracknell

Beverley Turner has opened up about her split from Strictly star James Cracknell, saying she is happy that he has found love again. Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, Beverley said that the former couple remain “amicable” for the sake of their children Croyde, 16, Kiki, 10, and Trixie, eight. But she added there are “days that you really want to order an assassin and take each other out”.

Former Olympic rower James, 46, and Beverley, 45, announced in March that their 17-year marriage was over. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, Beverley said: “We’ve got three children. Our eldest is 16, the girls are eight and 10.

That’s very demanding.

“You have to remain amicable for the sake of the children. Even on the days when you really want to order an assassin and take each other out. “Anyone having a divorce has those days.

But we know in the bigger picture the children are more important.” Addressing Strictly Come Dancing star James’ new relationship with Cambridge University student Jordan Connell, Beverley, from Prestwich, said she was pleased he had found love again.

“The great thing is he’s met someone who didn’t know him before the accident. If you didn’t know him before you’d think he was normal,” said Beverley.

Speaking of their split, Beverley admitted that James’ cycling accident, where he was hit by a truck travelling at 70mph, played a part in the end of their marriage. James was left with a brain injury and epilepsy from the incident, which happened in 2010. Beverley said: “We don’t know an awful lot about how the brain works.

“James’ injuries were to his frontal lobe.

That’s personality. He was very different. “He’s come a long way in that time.

Culminating in him going to university and doing his masters. At that point I’m like I’ve done all I can, my work is done.” Beverley, who is dating eco property developer James Pritchett, said the decision to split was made because they wanted to set a good example to their children about what a loving relationship should be.

She said: “I narrowed down my pool. I only date men called James. It’s very confusing when you’re trying to organise logistics.

“We unfortunately got outed when we were quite happy to keep it behind closed doors.

I feel very lucky. Early days, younger man, what’s not to like?” James was the first contestant to exit the BBC One dancing show – but Beverley was fair with her assessment of her former hubby.

She joked: “A bit scruffy and can’t dance.

But you wouldn’t think that was a guy with a brain injury.”

Lorraine airs weekdays from 8.30am on ITV.
