Dunmow Road crash: Photos show scene of crash which saw teenager airlifted to hospital

Photos have emerged of the scene of a serious crash which saw a 14-year-old girl airlifted to hospital. The teenager was the passenger in a red Vauxhall Corsa travelling along Dunmow Road in Felsted[1] this morning when the car crashed with a white tipper van near to the Palm Trees restaurant. The driver, a woman was taken to hospital while the girl was flown by air ambulance with serious injuries.

The van driver, meanwhile, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The crash happened outside a number of houses, and photos at the scene show the road closed off while the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) at Essex Police investigate. A recovery truck has also been pictured at the scene earlier this afternoon (1pm) to transport the damaged vehicles.

Traffic is having to divert as the road is closed

Rob Brettell, inspector for SCIU, was at the scene near Braintree earlier today. In a tweet, he said: “Road is currently closed due to a serious injury road traffic accident – we are examining the scene and collecting all possible evidence please be patient and find alternate route.”

A spokesperson for Essex Police[2] said: “A section of the road has been closed while enquiries continue and drivers are asked to find alternative routes.

“Witnesses are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email CollisionAppeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.”
