Live updates – A5 bypass closed in both directions in Tamworth after lorry fire

The A5 bypass is closed between Ventura Park and Mile Oak while emergency services deal with a haulage lorry on fire. A passing ambulance spotted the vehicle in flames at 1.12pm on the eastbound carriageway of the bypass, near to the Mile Oak junction.
Thick black smoke from the blaze can be seen for several miles. A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said that the driver had managed to get out of the vehicle and that the ambulance was still at the scene, together with other emergency services.  It is not known if the driver is injured.  No more details are currently available.
