M62 slip road closed as police return to scene where driver killed by falling load

A motorway slip road has been closed to recover vehicles after a fatal accident on the M62. A man sadly died after becoming trapped under the load from his lorry on Thursday afternoon, with the recovery of the vehicle involved now taking place. The man stopped his truck on the Howden Spur slip road to fix his load after it became insecure at about 4pm on Thursday.

A crane was brought to assist with the task. However, the large metal structure the lorry had been transporting became detached and fell on top of the driver – trapping him underneath it. The slip road at J37 of the M62 has now been closed to traffic as recovery operations get underway, with a winch being used to pull the frame up the side of the bank.

Traffic was brought to a standstill on Thursday afternoon, as a car landed on its roof at the junction before the Howden slip road, causing drivers to be temporarily held.
