Mercedes-Benz Trucks showcases Unimog to agricultural customers

For more than 70 years the Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been renowned for its all-terrain capability, but it is the truck's 56 mph on-road performance that delivers real efficiency savings for customers in the agriculture and arboriculture sectors. To highlight this, Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK is this month embarking upon an ambitious roadshow, touring three famous farms to showcase the Unimog's prowess both on-road and in the field. The events are entitled Unimog On The Farm, and promise a series of unique and memorable experiences for all attendees.

Starting at Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich yesterday (2 October), owners and operators will have the opportunity to try a variety of implements out on the field, experience on-road driving performance, and put the Unimog to the test off-road, as well as get involved via interactive workshops. Next Wednesday (9 October), the roadshow heads to Cotswold Farm Park near Cheltenham, before travelling to The Buffalo Farm in Kirkcaldy, Scotland on 24 October. At each event, Mercedes-Benz will present several examples of the Unimog, from new demonstrators to customer vehicles.

Not only will the Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK team be in attendance at each event, but experts from the factory in Germany will also be on hand to explain how the unique vehicle can work for farmers, while an exhibition of old and new Unimogs will demonstrate the versatility of the truck. Commenting on the events, Mercedes-Benz Head of Special Trucks Katie Purcell said: "Unimog LIVE has been a successful one-day event for the last three years, so we asked ourselves, 'Why just have one event a year?'. It has proved a popular decision - we've had phenomenal interest in Unimog on the Farm, with high demand from established and prospective customers keen to attend an event local to them.

Thanks to our partners, we have many vehicles on display, kitted out with mowers, rakes, cultivators and other agricultural equipment. These events demonstrate our commitment to the Unimog and this sector." The Unimog is a Mercedes-Benz truck product, and sold alongside the Actros, Arocs, Atego and Econic ranges.

Supported by more than 650 service outlets in over 130 countries, the Unimog's off-road capabilities and reliability make it a 'loyal companion' for operators around the world. Unimog is available as an implement carrier and a high mobility off-road truck, covering many varied applications. Both feature an impressive array of features including permanent all-wheel drive, portal axles with differential locks and multiple power-take-offs (PTOs).

All Unimogs have 4x4 chassis with single rear wheels and multiple forward and reverse gears. Gross weights vary from 7.5 to 16.5 tonnes and engines from 177 hp to 300 hp. An incredibly versatile vehicle, Unimog delivers the efficiency, reliability and working comfort that mission-critical applications demand.

Designed as the ultimate solution for an almost endless range of tasks, it provides the power and peace of mind to get the job done.  Beyond agriculture, Unimogs excel in the fields of arboriculture, defence, emergency services, leisure, municipal, utilities, winter maintenance and even railway locomotion. Unimog has no direct competitors with such a broad array of talents, but it can undertake the work of many different specialist machines, saving time and money whilst ensuring an easy and efficient experience.

Not only is it supremely capable, but the Unimog is packed with safety features too.

A panoramic cab offers excellent visibility, and the optional VarioPilot system can give the driver a much clearer side view by switching from left- to right-hand drive in 30 seconds.

When fitted with a Central Tyre Inflation (CTI) system activated from the cab, tyre pressures can be reduced quickly to prevent damage when covering soft ground.
