Pittsfield man struck, killed by a tractor-trailer truck

PITTSFIELD — A 73-year-old man was killed after being struck by a tractor-trailer truck. On Monday at approximately 7:12 p.m., the individual was walking into the driveway of Unistress Corp., a manufacturer of precast concrete structures located at 550 Cheshire Road in Pittsfield, when he was struck by a 2019 tractor-trailer truck. The vehicle was operated by 34-year-old Matthew Osak of Lee, who was traveling northbound and turning left into the facility, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s office.

The man, who has been identified by the district attorney’s office as Ernest Millette of Pittsfield, was pronounced dead on the scene. Pittsfield police and fire departments, Massachusetts State Police, Berkshire County Sheriff’s office and County Ambulance responded to the scene. The incident is being investigated by Pittsfield Police Officer Michael Silver, of the department’s traffic unit. 

As of presstime, it was still unclear as to whether the operator of the vehicle would face charges.
