Skip lorry hit by fire on M6 motorway

A section of the M6 was closed after a 7.5 ton lorry burst into flames. Flames engulfed the HGV as it was driving along the M6 southbound between Junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and Junction 5 (Castle Bromwich). Crews from Erdington station and Aston Station tackled the blaze which broke out at 10.30am on Friday closed two lanes for about an hour.

Erdington Fire tweeted an image showing the yellow and black lorry on fire on the hard shoulder. They said: “Green watch attended a fire involving a 7.5 tonne lorry on the M6 south today between junctions 6-5. Extinguished using two breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel.

Highways England tweeted : “Lane 1 & 2 closed #M6 – J6 #SpaghettiJunction to J5 #CastleBromwich due to a vehicle fire.

Emergency services in attendance.”
