UPDATES: A38 reopens after fatal crash claims life of cement mixer driver near Thornbury

The A38 at Alveston just across the Gloucestershire border reopened after a fatal collision. A lorry was involved in a crash on the busy road between its junctions with the B4061 at Thornbury and Grovesend Road on Friday afternoon. The driver, who was a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed from around 4pm until late on Friday night, before being closed again on Saturday morning for the recovery of the lorry.

Traffic heading between Bristol and Gloucester was shut from around 7.30am until  around 4pm on Saturday.

Avon and Somerset Police, Avon Fire & Rescue Service, and the South Western Ambulance Service were all in attendance. This morning, traffic and travel service Inrix reported that the road had again be closed. It said: “A38 in both directions closed due to serious accident, a lorry involved from B4061 Thornbury Road (Alveston) to Grovesend Road (Grovesend).”
