Watch as lorry straddles two lanes on dual carriageway stopping other cars from passing

Footage showing a lorry straddling both lanes as it drives through roadworks has sparked a fierce debate online. The video, taken on Tuesday morning (October 1), shows the lorry straddling both lanes as it approaches roadworks. Wales Online reports that other vehicles were unable to move past the lorry on the carriageway – around 200 yards from where the two lanes merge into one.

Gareth Jones posted the video on Facebook and many people were quick to offer their thoughts. Some argued the lorry driver was right to slow other cars in the right hand lane to prevent them from heading to the point where the lanes merge.

Others said that drivers heading to the end of the road lane before merging were in the right – and added the lorry driver should not have been trying to “police” other motorists One person said: “Is that because the lane narrows and gives you warning for about one mile and people fly down the outside and get in 50 yards from the bollards but he’s queued since it said, so he’s stopping those that want to get there quicker and leaving it last minute causing further tailbacks in lane one all because they can’t get in and filter and want to get there quicker?”

Another said: “Personally I applaud truck drivers or buses doing this… everybody keeps moving not just sitting at a standstill while idiots think it’s clever to speed past and dive in last minute causing accidents.

“That’s why the signs are there MERGE into one lane everyone keeps MOVING.”

And another said: “People need to read the signs approaching the road works, it clearly says use both lanes.”
