M23 closed as person dies in serious crash between HGV and car

The M23 has been closed in both directions after a person died in a crash between an HGV and car. The crash took place on the southbound carriageway close to the M25 at around 10.05am on Sunday (November 3). Both the northbound and southbound carriageway have been closed by emergency services to allow an air ambulance to land at the scene.

However, a person was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. An adult male and female were also treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, one by air ambulance, but neither are thought to be in a serious condition. A statement from Highways England says: “The M23 in Surrey is closed in both directions between J7 (A23) and J8 (M25) due to a serious traffic collision.

Surrey Police are on scene, air ambulance has also attended, along with our Highways England Traffic Officers. “Southbound traffic from M23 J7 can use the A23 southbound towards Gatwick, and then join the M23 southbound from J9A. “Northbound traffic can either travel anti-clockwise on the M25 to J6, then the A22 northbound to Purley.”

SurreyLive will be providing updates on the incident and the latest traffic information in this blog.
